The gentleman on crutches was my great-uncle Victor McBeth. After having five daughters, my great-grandparents finally got a son. That was Vic. Of course two more boys would appear a few years later, one of those being my grandfather.
Uncle Vic’s entire life was spent in the livestock business. He was a cattle baron and a horse trader. He was much more comfortable on a horse than he was in an automobile. This I found out while digging deep into the research on him. The Twin Falls Times-News must have had half a dozen articles reporting little car accidents and fender benders he was in. Unfortunately, I couldn’t tell you whether his broken leg in the picture was due to another car accident or whether he got kicked by one of his horses.
My aunt and uncle had four children. Two boys, Marion and Kenneth, and two daughters, Corinne and Sharon. This was the only time I saw my Uncle Vic’s family. Although, I would go through Twin Falls, Idaho, several times between 1977 and 1980 on my way to Ketchum, I never stopped by. Wish I would have. Uncle Vic didn’t pass until 1981. But I am in possession of a hand written letter he sent to me after this visit. It contained stories of he and my grandfather’s youth. I might have to make that a post.
